SilverNeedle Hospitality has announced it will award the construction contract to Hutchinson Builders, one of Australia’s largest construction companies, to undertake the redevelopment of the Chifley at Lennons hotel in the heart of Brisbane. Construction will commence today, Monday, 15th April.

The multimillion dollar project will see the Chifley at Lennons hotel redeveloped and transformed into the world’s first NEXT Hotel, SilverNeedle Hospitality’s new flagship hotel brand designed to appeal to the modern business traveller. The project will completely revitalise the Queen St Mall precinct with a new, exclusive luxury retail space and a new 300 room NEXT Hotel TM.

Iqbal Jumabhoy, Managing Director and Group CEO, SilverNeedle Hospitality said, “We are very excited to be entering the construction phase for NEXT Brisbane. This project will bring many benefits to retailers, businesses, residents and visitors while providing much needed hotel rooms and food & beverage offerings in its iconic location.”

Next Hotel Recreation Area and Pool

Hutchinson Builders was chosen to lead this project based on their solid reputation in Brisbane and their significant track record of successfully completing projects in the region. The teams at SilverNeedle Hospitality and Hutchinson Builders are committed to working closely with the Brisbane City Council and local stakeholders to ensure the project meets the city’s long-term vision for Burnett Lane and the Queen St Mall.

Brisbane Lord Mayor, Graham Quirk, expressed his support for the project, saying hotel development was an economic priority for the city, “Brisbane’s hotel industry has experienced strong trading conditions over a number of years and has the capacity for an additional 299-446 hotel rooms a year for the next 10 years to meet current and future demand,” Cr Quirk said.

“This investment by SilverNeedle is a great step in the right direction to ensure the city can comfortably cater to the growing number of leisure and business tourists, as well accommodate the G20 Leaders Summit in 2014. I congratulate SilverNeedle and look forward to the next step in the revitalisation of the Queen Street Mall and Burnett Lane precincts.”

NEXT Brisbane is expected to be embraced by the increasing number of business travellers given the increasing demand in Brisbane for four to four-and-a-half star hotels, together with its close proximity to Asia. It is anticipated that construction will be completed by mid 2014 and launched prior to the November 2014 G20 Leaders Summit.

  • How much are they spending? Obviously they’ll gut the crusty old rooms, but are they going to revitalize the horrendously ugly exterior? They better, ’cause it just about takes out the award for the most ghastly-ugly for the whole city, Gold Coast included!

  • @blacknganga= The current building is no where near as ugly as, say, the brown lump of cement that is the Hitachi Building!

  • All the Hitachi building needs is something to cover up the hideous slab of concrete at the back… yes, i see your point, I think my emotions may be affected by the crappy beige-pink colour of the thing, definitely needs an overhall, though.

  • Please can you send me pictures on the new Next Hotel in Brisbane,so i may pass them on to friends who are intersted in this.
