As international retailers like Zara, H&M, Uniqlo and GAP all prepare to open up shop in Australia, ISPT has lodged an application to redevelop what is seen as the final stage of the Wintergarden redevelopment.
155 Queen Street, the site formally housing HMV will soon be transformed into a boutique commercial development that includes a 3 level major retail flagship store.
“The design features a double-height, glazed shop front with an upper podium level facade treatment that will further enhance this section of the mall,” ISPT development director Chris McCluskey said.
The design also connects the space to the proposed Regent Tower redevelopment and the Wintergarden.
ISPT has not yet revealed what retail candidate will move into the space.
Meanwhile sources indicate ISPT are gearing up for a complete redevelopment of Broadway on the Mall after it acquired the rundown 30 year old centre in July 2011.
The construction timeframe of Broadway will most likely coincide with a lot of international retailers Australian expansion plans who have looking for new Brisbane CBD retail space.
Finally, Zara is coming to Brisbane. I waited nearly 5 years, had to make an excuse to husband that I had to go to Sydney, but only to visit the Zara store.

But what Brisbane REALLY needs is The REGENT THEATRE REBUILT. Brisbane sorely lacks another major theatre with viable capacity of 1500-2000 seats, as QPAC’s Lyric Theatre is booked up years in advance with touring productions and its’ second smaller Playhouse Theatre is booked out similarly with local companies. The Regent is the perfect CBD location for a second major theatre for this city, complete with its’ iconic heritage-listed foyer still standing in anticipation. It could be redesigned based on original drawings but with improvements to enable modern touring musicals, concerts and theatre productions. Brisbane has lost all of its’ character theatres from the CBD. Yes, the Wintergarden development stands over the same ground not only the Wintergarden Theatre stood, but also Brisbane’s iconic Her Majesty’s Theatre, Pavilion Theatre and the still vacant Regent Theatre lots. Restoring The Regent Theatre back to the heart of this city will be the final jewel in the crown of the Wintergarden development. It is not only strategically a wise economic move for the capital city for it’s CBD retail and evening trade, perfect for this city’s booming population, but it would be a major public approval winner, as the loss of Brisbane’ Regent Theatre has been condemned across all generations from people all around Australia as being an disgraceful act of cultural vandalism. Please restore Brisbane’s cultural heritage dignity and Rebuild The Regent Theatre!

Zara, H&M, Uniqlo and GAP are all my favourite stores in Malaysia. Hopefully the prices aren’t as high as the oversea prices as our Australian dollars are still high.
We just need cheaper parking to make shopping more affordable. Hope there will be online shopping from those stores as well.

I grew up in Brisbane and left 14 years ago to live in London and Melbourne which I loved. We just moved back to Brisbane and agree this city can be something extraordinary. With the addition of Zara and some high end stores it will turn the old, boring Brisbane mall into a very exciting city! I can’t wait to see it all completed.
