The Brisbane City Council has submitted a development application for a preliminary design of a new urban common park located at the corner of Manning Street and Railway Terrace in Milton.
In response to fast growing density levels in Milton, Council acquired three properties located on the prominent corner in 2014 which will enable the first stage of the project to be delivered.
Milton Urban Common will provide a space for a variety of uses, including green shady spots to have lunch and a grassy area for picnics and recreational activities.
The work will be undertaken in stages, with the first stage of works proposing to deliver:
- green open spaces
- new pathway access between Railway Terrace and Manning Street
- subtropical landscaping, including large feature trees and lush gardens
- seating walls and a sheltered area with bench seating and tables
- toilet facilities.
According to the 2014 Milton Station neighbourhood plan, a partial closure of Manning Street is proposed to increase the public space for the community.
The street closure will not occur during this initial phase of work but is proposed to occur during future upgrade stages.
The community was invited to have their say on the concept plan for the first stage of works for Milton Urban Common between 19 February and 16 March 2018.
The final design of the park is expected to be announced in mid-2018.
