Scotland’s largest independent craft beer brewery BrewDog has proposed a new state-of-the-art brewery, canning line, visitor centre and restaurant overlooking the Brisbane River at 77 Metroplex Avenue, Murarrie.
Brisbane pushed out contenders Newcastle and South Australia to be chosen as the new Australian Brewdog brewery and headquarters. The company’s investment in Brisbane will total $30 million which includes the construction of the 3,030 sqm production building as well as ancillary facilities.
The facility will comprise of a brewhouse, plant room, packaging area, dry goods / storage and cold storage. The brewer also has expansion plans for a laboratory, taproom and growing bar division.
BrewDog has two breweries, one at their home in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and one in the USA in Columbus, Ohio. This proposal represents BrewDog’s first brewery to be established in Australia.
“We’ve been so humbled by the support from local businesses as well as the local community who have shown a real passion for BrewDog to call Brissie home. It’s a city that’s on the brink of some incredible growth, and we can’t wait to be a part of that,” said Zarah Prior, the Director of BrewDog Australia.
The total annual product output for the brewery will be 10,000,000L or 10,100 tonnes. A total of 13 tanks / silos are to be located on site to enable brewing of beer to occur.
It is expected that the new Brewery headquarters will create 150 jobs in Brisbane.
The proposed brewery will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This will include truck movements and loading/unloading.
Construction is anticipated to commence towards the end of this year with completion expected in early 2019.
