Wang Jianlin’s Dalian Wanda Group who recently flagged plans to build a multi-billion dollar theme park on the Gold Coast is reported to be closing in on a deal to buy a majority holding of Legendary Entertainment who are the producers of Jurassic World, Interstellar and a range of high budget blockbuster movies which indicates that Wanda may be chasing the Jurassic World rights to build a park in Australia.

Wanda, who already own Australia’s largest cinema company Hoyts and US cinema chain AMC, is currently in negotiations with the Queensland Government to build a theme park between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, likely in the existing Coomera Theme Park zone.

Dreamworld has already stated it will need to undertake major redevelopments to sure up any potential impact on visitor numbers however commercial chief executive Craig Davidson said it would take on new competitors head-to-head.

“We will continue to invest and will not be standing around waiting for it,” he said.

“We have our own plans and will be a very different looking place in four years as well.”
