CONSTRUCTION: Queensland Premier Anna Bligh today released designs for the new ABC headquarters and Queensland Symphony Orchestra building located in Southbank. The land will be leased from the Southbank Corporation who have ultimate planning controls within the parklands zone. The shared ABC HQ & QSO has been designed by Brisbane based architectural firm Richard Kirk.
Construction of the new headquarters is now nearing completion and will bring together eight offices which have been dispersed across the city. The opening coincides with the new Brisbane Exhibition Centre and Convention Centre expansion project located across the road. The new four storey building will feature a ‘glass bowl’ where on-air news studios will be visible to the public from the outside of the building. The complex will house around 450 workers over the 15,000 square metres of floor space with 600 square metres of studio space. Construction images from Duke.
The new headquarters is deemed to become “The best ABC facility in the country” while also achieving environmentally sustainable design elements. Below are a range of images of the proposed ABC headquarters.
