Student One at 97 Elizabeth Street has been granted approval on a $150 million two-tower dedicated student residence at the former Elizabeth Arcade site in Brisbane’s CBD with construction due to commence in in July 2016.
The 30,000 square metre development, with street frontage on both Elizabeth and Charlotte Streets in Brisbane’s CBD, is the third city-centre student accommodation residence being constructed by Student One – bringing its managed scale to 2,400 beds by 2019.
The company’s first residence, the $110 million 687-bed Student One on Adelaide Street, will open its doors from 1 July 2016.
Student One CEO Tim Weston said the Arkhefield Architects designed 24-storey Elizabeth Street tower and 31-storey Charlotte Street tower would re-establish the cross-block linkage between Elizabeth and Charlotte Streets, whilst seamlessly interconnecting the two towers with a multi-level podium, overlooking a vibrant dining scene.
“Student One on Elizabeth Street will house almost 1,000 domestic and international student residents in 458 apartments when at full occupancy,” Mr Weston said.
“We want to safely immerse our student residents within a bustling and energetic city environment, so our design has taken full advantage of its ground floor laneway from Elizabeth Street to Charlotte Street, which will see more than 1.5 million people travel through it each year.
Mr Weston said that Student One on Elizabeth Street’s design was delivering on the accommodation provider’s commitment to supporting inclusive environments for its students to live in, creating public and private spaces that encouraged community living, a natural environment that would stimulate interaction between students and the city’s population.
“We have embraced the Brisbane City Council’s commitment to developing an inclusive city and with more than a quarter of the City’s population being born overseas, it’s no wonder Brisbane is considered a global Top 20 Best Student City to study,” he said.
“The Australian dollar is now offering added incentive for international students to consider Australia as their preferred study destination, so we should see revenue generated from the international student market exceed $20 billion in the short-term.
Student One Elizabeth Street will offer a range of studios and two, three, four, five and six-bedroom apartment types, with all rooms fully-furnished and air-conditioned. A number of the lower floors will contain rooms with individual outdoor alfresco areas. Free high-speed wired and wireless internet will be available throughout the towers, as well as advanced CCTV systems that will provide a high level of resident safety.
Common areas at Student One on Elizabeth Street will contain extensive communal and private study areas, breakout spaces, outdoor social spaces, a games room, gym and media room.
The food and dining laneway will contain up to 1,200 square metres of space for up to 15 outlets, along with of communal spaces for diners to enjoy the natural light and laneway atmosphere running from Elizabeth Street through to Charlotte Street.
Student One’s purpose-built accommodation offers safety, security, ease of transport to and from educational institutions, and access to high-quality amenities, technology, restaurants and entertainment, which are important to students’ academic success and building lifelong friendships.
